Govt Support With High Quality Seeds & Machinery , 1,000 Assam Pumpkin Farmers Target Rs 6 Cr Exports

Assam's Agriculture Minister, Atul Bora, applauds the success of over 1,000 young farmers cultivating pumpkins with government support, aiming to send produce worth ₹6 crore to other states.

Assam's Agriculture Minister, Atul Bora, is excited about the progress young farmers are making in pumpkin cultivation, crediting government initiatives and the farmers' hard work.

Bora highlighted the success of over 1,000 young farmers at Brihangam Farmers’ Producer Company (FPC) in cultivating pumpkins across 3,000 bighas at Saguri Chapori, Kuruabahi Gram Panchayat. These farmers, backed by government support, access high-quality seeds, and machinery, resulting in significant pumpkin cultivation growth.

With support from the government, they have access to high-quality seeds including advanced varieties like Arjuna F1 and EW 137.

Bora informed that the Brihangam FPC has set an ambitious goal of sending pumpkins worth ₹6 crore to other states and foreign nations. Notably, the FPC achieved substantial revenue of nearly ₹2 crore from pumpkin sales last year. Minister Atul Bora personally visited the pumpkin cultivation site, engaging with the farmers and extending his best wishes to these hardworking individuals. He praised the farmers for their commitment to self-reliance and their productive contributions to the state's economy.

"The Agriculture Department provided the FPC with farm machinery and top-notch seeds, leading to a significant increase in pumpkin cultivation," said Bora.

Additionally, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the initiative by reposting Minister Bora’s update on his official handle. CM Sarma described it as a commendable model for Assam’s agriculture, expressing delight in witnessing young farmers becoming self-reliant and making valuable contributions to the state's economy.
