Basic Thresher Types

Here are three basic types of threshers listed below:-

Cylinder Type thresher

The cylinder-type thresher is a widely used agricultural machine designed for separating grain from its stalks and husks. It consists of a rotating cylinder with threshing bars or teeth. As the crop is fed into the thresher, the cylinder rotates, causing the threshing bars to rub against the crop, thus loosening the grain. The separated grain then falls through the openings between the bars, while the remaining stalks and husks are expelled through a separate outlet. Cylinder-type threshers are known for their high threshing efficiency and suitability for various crops, including wheat, rice, and barley. They are often equipped with adjustable settings to accommodate different crop conditions, ensuring optimal threshing performance.

Corrugated flywheel with chopping knife-type thresher

The corrugated flywheel with chopping knife type thresher is a specialized machine designed for efficient threshing of crops like maize and sorghum. It features a large flywheel with corrugated iron or steel surfaces and a set of chopping knives mounted on the periphery. As the crop enters the thresher, the flywheel rotates rapidly, generating centrifugal force. The crop comes into contact with the corrugated surface of the flywheel, which helps to separate the grain from the stalks. Simultaneously, the chopping knives chop the stalks into smaller pieces, facilitating easier separation. In the thresher, both the grains and chaff directly fall from grates that are made in the concave. This type of thresher is known for its high-speed operation, effective threshing performance, and ability to handle crops with relatively tough stalks.

Beater type thresher

A beater-type thresher is a versatile machine used for separating grains from their stalks and husks. It employs a rotating drum or cylinder with a set of beaters or flails. The crop is fed into the thresher, and the beaters inside the drum strike the crop repeatedly, causing the grains to separate from the stalks. The separated grains fall through the gaps in the drum, while the remaining crop residue is expelled through an outlet. They are also called Drummy. Beater-type threshers are suitable for a wide range of crops, including wheat, barley, oats, and rice. They are appreciated for their simplicity, ease of operation, and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, beater-type threshers can be easily adjusted to accommodate different crop sizes and threshing requirements, making them adaptable for various farming needs.
