In a remarkable shift from tradition, the once male-dominated realm of tractor driving is now witnessing a surge in women confidently maneuvering the wheels of farm tractors. Ramya, a novice to driving, found herself in a wholly unfamiliar terrain as she took the helm of a farm tractor for the first time. With initial concern and confusion, her journey took a positive turn, thanks to dedicated training and encouragement from her instructor. This story resonates with ten other women in her batch, each of them sharing their own unique transformational experiences.

The transformation is part of the Central government's 'Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana' (MKSP) program, which seeks to elevate the role of women in the agriculture sector. One pivotal initiative within the program is the tractor training program that is sweeping across the state's farms. This initiative aims not only to break down gender barriers but also to create new avenues of employment for women by equipping them with skills in modern, machinery-backed farming techniques.

The commencement of this movement was observed in the Panthalayani block panchayat, where eleven determined women embarked on their journey to grasp the fundamentals of tractor driving. The MKSP program is being carried out across all block panchayats, with local experts stepping in to facilitate the program's successful execution.

"The project's main focus is on women who share a passion for farming," remarked K T M Koya, Chairman of the Panthalayani block health standing committee. He emphasized the broader perspective of this initiative, envisioning a surge in women participation in the farming landscape as a whole.

Ramya, who confidently navigated her way through the challenges of tractor driving, expressed her conviction, saying, "Driving a tractor across a vast expanse of fields is undeniably demanding. We now understand why this task was traditionally associated with men. However, we are breaking through stereotypes and proving our capabilities by handling these powerful machines with utmost efficiency." Her sentiment was echoed by her peers, each of whom echoed a resounding determination to bridge the gender gap in agriculture.
