The Tractor and Mechanization Association (TMA) is a non-profit, industry-led agriculture mechanization organization that is actively involved in India's agricultural development. TMA was established over 40 years ago as an industry association for Indian tractor manufacturers. Over time, the tractor manufacturing industry shifted to the production of farm implements, giving rise to the Tractor and Farm Mechanization Association.

TMA works to create and sustain an environment that promotes the growth of the tractor and farm mechanization industries while also meeting the needs of India's farming community. By volume, India is the world's largest manufacturer and exporter of tractors.

TMA's goal is to transform the Indian Farm Mechanization industry into a self-sufficient agricultural economy, which is essential for a large and populous country like India. The AtmaNirbhar Krishi initiative has resulted in a paradigm shift in the farming community's relationship with industry stakeholders and the government.

Functions:

  • TMA serves as a forum for discussion both within the industry and with the government.
  • TMA strives to improve the working environment for its members by representing and participating in the work of the government and other relevant authorities.
  • TMA assists its members in improving technology, quality, production, and interactions with international and domestic organizations and institutions.
  • TMA also keeps comprehensive data on tractor production/sales trends and export data.

Different Committees of TMA

Managing Committee of TMA

The association's governing council is the TMA Managing Committee, which is comprised of senior executives from all member companies. The Managing Committee meets to decide on the company's direction and to plan strategy and finances. The Managing Committee develops and approves major policy decisions and national-interest representations for submission to regulators.

Finance Committee of TMA

The TMA Finance committee keeps track of taxation issues, subsidy recommendations, the impact of GST, the evaluation of input tax credits, the inverted duty structure, export incentives, and any other finance-related issues. The finance committee establishes platforms for members to interact with relevant officials from the Ministry of Finance or the Department of Commerce.

Marketing Committee of TMA

The TMA marketing committee oversees and represents policy concerns affecting the industry's market and sales, either directly or indirectly. Apart from closely monitoring the Indian economy and its impact on the agricultural ecosystem, it conducts various research studies to gain insights into the outlook for key agri-input segments, production estimates, crop price outlook, and farmer profitability. The committee also closely monitors the status of incentives and schemes offered by the federal and state governments.

Technical Committee of TMA

The TMA Technical Committee reviews validates and recommends technical standards that benefit the industry and consumers as a whole. It collaborates closely to improve methodologies, conducts comparative studies and surveys in various research fields, and serves as a platform for the exchange of information, experience, and ideas.
