Fish production is an important sector in India, and certain states have contributed significantly to the total production and revenue generation. West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu are some of the top states in terms of fish production and revenue generation. In this article, we have discussed revenues generated and the top states with higher fish production.

India is the second-largest producer of fish in the world, with a total fish production of 13.7 million metric tonnes in 2019-20. The fish production is distributed across the country, with certain states contributing significantly to the total production.

Some of the top states in India in terms of fish production and revenue generation are:-

West Bengal:

West Bengal is the top state in terms of fish production in India. The state produced 2.8 million metric tonnes of fish in 2019-20, contributing to 20% of the country's total fish production. The state's revenue from the fishery sector was INR 45.6 billion in 2018-19.

 

 Andhra Pradesh:

Andhra Pradesh is the second-largest producer of fish in India, contributing 15% of the country's total fish production. The state produced 2.1 million metric tonnes of fish in 2019-20, and its revenue from the fishery sector was INR 34.8 billion in 2018-19.

 

Gujarat:

Gujarat is another significant state in terms of fish production and revenue generation. The state produced 1.6 million metric tonnes of fish in 2019-20, contributing to 11.7% of the country's total fish production. The state's revenue from the fishery sector was INR 30.7 billion in 2018-19.

 

Kerala:

Kerala is known for its coastal cuisine and is a major contributor to the country's fish production. The state produced 0.6 million metric tonnes of fish in 2019-20, contributing to 4.4% of the country's total fish production. The state's revenue from the fishery sector was INR 29.2 billion in 2018-19.

Tamil Nadu:

Tamil Nadu is another significant state in terms of fish production in India. The state produced 0.5 million metric tonnes of fish in 2019-20, contributing to 3.9% of the country's total fish production. The state's revenue from the fishery sector was INR 21.4 billion in 2018-19.
