Success Story of a 12-Year-Old Farmer Amith K Biju: Remarkable Journey from Boredom to Bounty in Agriculture

In the heart of Bison Valley, a remarkable success story has unfolded, painting a vivid picture of passion, determination, and youthful innovation. Amid the challenges posed by the pandemic, a young mind found solace and purpose in the rich soil of his family's three-acre land. Twelve-year-old Amith K Biju, a Class VII student, embarked on a journey that not only rekindled the farming tradition but also earned him the well-deserved title of 'best student farmer.'

As the world grappled with the uncertainties brought about by the pandemic, Amith discovered his love for agriculture. With schools closed and the state under lockdown in 2020, Amith turned to farming as a means to escape boredom and find fulfilment. His family's land was primarily dedicated to cultivating spices, particularly cardamom, under the stewardship of his father, Biju. However, Amith's burgeoning interest sparked a new chapter in the family's agricultural pursuits.

Amith's mother, Saranya, shared how a portion of the family's land was entrusted to Amith for his agricultural experiments. With a zeal that belied his age, Amith dove into the world of farming. From planting seeds to nurturing crops, applying fertilizers, and managing the entire cultivation process, Amith took charge single-handedly.

His dedication bore fruit—quite literally. In the expanse of his family's land, Amith's efforts led to the bountiful harvest of 15 kg of cowpeas, 6 kg of Brinjal, 4 kg of butter beans, and an array of other bean varieties, vegetables, and fruits, including plums, apricots, and mangosteens, during his summer vacation this year.

What sets Amith apart, however, is not just his agricultural prowess, but his compassionate spirit. Rather than seeking profit, he chose to share his harvest with the community. Neighbours and relatives were the beneficiaries of his hard work, as he distributed his yield free of cost. This act of generosity not only highlighted Amith's character but also deepened the sense of community within Bisonvalley.

Saranya shared how Amith's passion for farming remained undimmed. He diligently prepared grow bags and seeds for cultivation during the Onam vacation, showcasing a level of commitment and enthusiasm that is truly inspiring. The sight of her young son actively engaged in agricultural activities fills Saranya with pride and happiness. She emphasized that the support extended by the agriculture department authorities played a pivotal role in nurturing young talents like Amith, rekindling the farming traditions that have been an integral part of the region's heritage.
