Rajasthan Woman Farmer Earns 4 Lakh from 9 Bighas Through Mustard Farming
Despite rising agricultural input costs leading to losses for many, a woman in Bhilwara District is turning a profit by implementing modern techniques and quality seeds, even in the face of water scarcity and irrigation challenges.
Sheela Jat, a resident of Motipura village, once practiced traditional farming methods that yielded minimal profits. Faced with water scarcity, she decided to adopt a more efficient approach, shifting from wheat to mustard cultivation to maximize crop yield in limited land.
In the arid Asind region of Bhilwara district, where rainfall is scarce, wheat cultivation typically requires five to six irrigations. Sheela Jat recognized the need for innovation to enhance profitability.
Advanced Techniques and Modified Seeds
Sheela Jat adopted advanced farming techniques and used improved seeds, a decision that proved fruitful. Last year, she generated an impressive income of Rs 4 lakh from her 9 bighas of mustard crops. Encouraged by her success, she expanded her mustard cultivation to 50 bighas this year, aiming for even greater profits.
Sheela Jat's approach involves growing high-quality mustard seeds while efficiently managing water resources. This strategy not only increases her income but also contributes to sustainable farming practices.
