Planter vs. Seeder- Differences, Benefits & more

All of the machines are dependable and perform admirably in agricultural applications. One of them is a seed drill and planter. We are very familiar with these two words and we also know what kind of work these machines do. However, because they are so similar, most people get them mixed up. They do, however, differ, and we are here to demonstrate those differences.

Seeder

The seed drill is a piece of cutting-edge farming equipment used to sow crop seeds. It plants the seeds in the soil, presses them to a specific depth, and evenly distributes them. The farm machine plants the seeds at the proper depth and rate to ensure adequate soil coverage. This process safeguards the seeds against birds, animals, and drying. A seed drill machine is used to evenly distribute the seeds in rows. It ensures that plants receive rough nutrients, soil water, and sunlight.

Types of Seeders

There are two kinds of seed drills available, which are as follows:

  • Drills Drawn by Bullock
  • Drills Drawn by Tractor

The Advantages of Seed Drilling

  • The farm machine evenly distributed seeds in less time.
  • Seed drill machines are efficient and save labor.
  • The machine squandered less seed.
  • It sows the seeds at equal distances and depths.
  • It keeps animals and birds away from the seeds.
  • The machine is more beneficial and profitable because it simplifies and comforts plantation, seeding, and post-harvest tasks.
  • The machine is simple to operate and requires little maintenance.

Planter

A planter is a farm machine that is attached to the back of a tractor and is primarily used for seeding. It plants the seed in rows across a field. The planter machine is designed to plant larger seeds and cannot be used with seed drills. Planters are available with an odd number of row units ranging from 2 to 48. The farmer can plant as few as two rows or as many as 48.

Types of Planters

  • Regular drill planter
  • Check-row planter
  • Hill drop planter

The Advantages of Planter

  • It is the most efficient seeding and plantation machine.
  • The machine speeds up and reduces the cost of seed sowing.
  • It necessitates minimal labor.
  • The tractor planter maintains the proper seed spacing and depth.
  • It ensures consistent growth and maturity, resulting in a higher yield than manual sowing.
  • The planter is ideal for larger seeds.
