Pandurang Taware, a farmer from the small village of Malegaon in Maharashtra, India, is known as the "Father of Agritourism" for his pioneering work in developing a sustainable model for rural tourism that benefits both farmers and tourists.

In 2005, Taware started offering guided tours of his farm to visitors who were interested in learning about organic farming and rural life. He soon realized that there was a huge demand for such tours and that many other farmers in the region could benefit from the additional income that agritourism could provide.

Taware started organizing training sessions for other farmers on how to set up agritourism businesses and also helped them market their farms to tourists. Over the years, Taware's efforts have paid off. More than 600 farmers in Maharashtra have benefitted from his guidance, and collectively they have earned over Rs 58 crore from agritourism.

They have also been able to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable agriculture and the need to protect the environment.

Taware's work has been recognized by the Indian government, which awarded him the Padma Shri in 2020, one of the country's highest civilian honors. He has also been invited to speak at international conferences and has been featured in numerous news articles and documentaries.
