Organic Mulching- Know About Its Types And Benefits

Mulching is a method of covering the bare soil with layers of materials like vegetable or fruit peels and organic residual content which can restore moisture, increase soil fertility, and provide several other benefits.

Organic Mulching

Organic Mulching is the method of conditioning the soil by applying different techniques, like leftover materials including hay, straws, residues, leftover shredded bark, and many more.

Organic Mulching can also invite natural composters like earthworms which can easily dig deep inside the soil, therefore fertilizing the field. They mainly originate from living materials. Therefore it is the very best method to boost and enhance the soil for better crop cultivation.

Organic mulching plays a very efficient role in forming a good soil structure, reducing soil compaction, and boosting good farm production. They keep the soil warm during winters and cool during summers. They also prevent the soil from erosions and keep a check on moisture content in the soil.

TYPES

There are the following types, performing organic mulching:-

STRAW

It is the leftover stalks which is an efficient enhancer for vegetable gardening. Its main role is to provide soil protection and conserve moisture in the soil. It has a higher C: N ratio, which allows them to degrade slowly. They possess a light color, therefore, reflecting less and providing a cooling effect for the soil.

COMPOST

They are the best enhancer, conditioning the soil. They can easily suppress weeds, prevent pest infestations, provide good-quality crops, and increase the fertility of the soil. Compost is effective and economical when used in potting mixes. This helps to inoculate the soils with beneficial organisms.

SAWDUST

It helps to moisten the soil providing cooling soil conditions which promote vigorous growth of vegetables. Heavy soils will become light and way easier providing good water-holding capacity.

WOODEN CHIPS

They are the common mulches, are very robust, and decompose very slowly. They also provide stable humus. For a perennial garden bed, they are the best material for effective farming.

GRASS CLIPPING

They degrade quite quickly. They have great benefits providing good warmth to the soil. It should be mulched at 4 inches. This will help in the proper aeration of the farm fields.

BENEFITS

  • It enhances organic soil content.
