In the face of growing populations and depleting resources, achieving self-reliance in cities is of utmost importance. Delhi, home to an overwhelming 30.5 million residents and possessing only a scant 347.5 hectares of cultivated land, faces challenges in meeting the needs of its vast population.

The dependence on external sources for fruits and vegetables taxes both human and environmental resources. These conditions highlight the significance of adopting the principle of "cultivate your food, consume your harvest," prompting innovative approaches to urban farming in limited areas.

Urban farming, known as Shahri Bagwani, consists of cultivating, processing, and distributing agricultural products in urban and suburban domains. It encompasses vertical farming, warehouse cultivation, community gardens, rooftop farms, and innovative methods like hydroponic, aeroponic, and aquaponic systems.

This ensures food security, enhances social inclusion, expands sustainability and environmental well-being, drives economic advancement, and imparts nutritional awareness.  Residents are empowered to cultivate fruits, vegetables, and plants on their terraces, embracing pesticide-free produce and promoting communal living while amplifying the city's green canopy.
