John Deere, a new-age agricultural brand is pushing for a future in which farming relies ever more on sensors and machines. Today, the environment has changed and with the changing climate that is shifting growing seasons and making weather less predictable, it's clear that the farm of the future will require a technical change. That’s when Robots enter the scenario.

John Deere's latest work in high-tech agriculture is a sensor-driving robotic technology called ExactShot that's specially designed to reduce fertilizer use by 60%. It also aims for saving farmers money and slashing the cost of excess chemicals that goes into the soil.

Instead of shooting a steady stream of fertilizer into the farm soil over the seeds planted in rows by machinery, ExactShot technology uses sensors and robotics to send out timed spreads of fertilizer that coat individual seeds.

That efficiency can keep unrequired fertilizer out of the soil where it can fuel the growth of unwanted weeds that pull nutrients away from crops or run off the field into water sources.

John Deere informed that the ExactShot system will be available to farmers for this year's spring planting.

ExactShot Role in Agriculture

  • It will help the farmers to be economically and environmentally sustainable as they work tirelessly to grow food, fuel, and fibre.
  • With the growing global population, this robot will help farmers increase production by 60% to 70% on today’s arable land.
  • ExactShot works with the help of a sensor and it registers when each individual seed is in the process of going into the soil.
  • The robot will spray only the required amount of fertilizer i.e. about 0.2 ML, directly on the seed as it goes into the ground.
  • ExactShot will also save fertilizer annually and avoid the wastage of fertilizers by encouraging weed growth or increasing the risk of running off the field into the water source.

John Deere is also using this year's show to push into EV technology and unveiled its first electric-powered excavator. This John Deere excavator was built to reduce noise pollution and emissions on construction sites.
