Hydroponic Bean Farming Unveiled- Easy Guide to Growing Healthy Beans

Hydroponic farming is a soilless agricultural technique that allows crops to be grown in a controlled environment. If people are planning to increase bean yield through the hydroponic method then one must consider this easy method. Usually, nutrient-rich water is used to provide essential elements directly to the plant roots, promoting faster growth and higher yields.

The absence of soil eliminates the risk of soil-borne diseases and enables efficient water usage. This innovative method reduces the need for land and allows beans to be cultivated in urban areas, ensuring a sustainable and year-round supply of fresh, healthy produce.

Benefits of Growing Hydroponic Beans

Below are some of the major benefits of growing beans through a hydroponic system:-

  • The hydroponic Method can double the yield of beans when given an adequate nutrient supply in water.
  • Hydroponics enables efficient space utilization, thereby making it suitable for urban areas with limited land availability.
  • Hydroponic systems utilize very fewer amounts of pesticides and fertilizers. This system, therefore, promotes sustainable farming practices.
  • In the absence of soil, hydroponic farming reduces the risk of soil-borne diseases, providing a healthier environment for bean plants.
  • Hydroponics allows for year-round bean cultivation, ensuring a consistent and uninterrupted supply of fresh produce.

Conditions Required for Growing Hydroponic Beans

The following are different conditions required for growing beans through the hydroponic method:-

  • Temperature
  • Electrical Conductivity (EC)
  • PPM (Parts Per Million)
  • Temperature- 15 to 21 Degree Celsius
  • Source- Water, Nitrogen, Sunlight, and Essential minerals

Easy Guide to Growing Hydroponic Beans

Below is the step-by-step guide to growing healthy hydroponic beans:-

Choose a hydroponic system: Select a suitable system for growing beans, such as nutrient film technique (NFT), deep water culture (DWC), or ebb and flow system.

Prepare the nutrient solution: Mix a hydroponic nutrient solution according to the specific requirements of bean plants. Plants usually absorb essential micronutrients and macronutrients. Nutrients should be provided at different growth stages.

Variety Selection: The following are different varieties that can be grown hydroponically:-

  • Runner Beans
  • Lima Beans
  • String Beans
  • Pole Beans
  • Bush Beans

Provide Sunlight: Beans plants prefer full sunlight within a range of 12 to 13 hours. Usually, they prefer a temperature of 15 to 21 Degrees Celsius.

Monitor and manage pests: It is important to inspect the bean plants for any signs of pests or diseases. Pests including aphids, mites whiteflies may attack therefore regular monitoring should be done. Use appropriate organic pest control methods or insecticidal soaps to address any issues promptly.

Harvest the beans: Once the beans reach the desired maturity, carefully harvest them by cutting or snapping them off the plant. When compared to beans grown through the conventional method, it is observed that conventional harvesting takes 60 days whereas hydroponic beans can easily mature within 7 to 10 days.
