Transitioning from academic challenges to agricultural success, B Mahipal Reddy from Kowdipally village, Medak, achieved remarkable prosperity, earning Rs 1.8 crore from ripe tomatoes. Initially facing setbacks in school and paddy cultivation, Reddy turned to tomato farming, unaware that this choice would unfold into an inspiring success tale.

Great Opportunity in the Market

Capitalizing on the demand gap for tomatoes in the Hyderabad market, Reddy carefully nurtured his tomato crop on eight acres. Using protective nets to shield it from adverse weather, his A Grade produce fetched an impressive price of over Rs 100 per kg.

Despite potential crop losses due to excessive rain, Reddy remains optimistic about surpassing Rs 2 crore in total income this season, with 40% of the crop still on his farm.

Transition to Vegetable and Tomato Farming

Venturing into vegetable and tomato farming four years ago on 40 acres, previously dedicated to paddy cultivation, Reddy emphasizes the importance of patience and learning in agricultural pursuits. Highlighting the economics of tomato farming, he mentioned investing Rs 2 lakh per acre, showcasing the potential for substantial returns with proper farming techniques.

Innovative Techniques for the Future              

Having sold around 7,000 boxes of tomatoes, Reddy plans to explore innovative techniques like using drones for fertilizer spraying on his paddy fields, aiming to reduce costs and increase yields. Reddy envisions further growth through ongoing experiments and expansions.
