Today wraps up the three-day Millionaire Farmer of India event, generously sponsored by Mahindra Tractors. The event recognized the wealthiest farmers in the country at MFOI 2023. 'Krishi Jagran,' a well-known agricultural media outlet, organized the ceremony at IARI, Pusa Ground, New Delhi.

In a prestigious moment during the event, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Rupala, presented the award to Ratnamma Gundamantha, an accomplished woman farmer.

Ratnamma Gundamantha: A Billionaire in Agriculture

Hailing from Srinivaspura Taluk, Kolar Karnataka, Ratnamma Gundamantha manages a 4-acre farm, cultivating mangoes, millets, and rearing silkworms. With a commitment to innovative farming, she dedicates two acres to mango orchards and one acre for commercial cultivation. Leveraging cutting-edge technology from IISAT-KVK, Kolar, she has enriched her skills through a five-day vocational training at Payal Training organized by KVK, Kolar.

Beyond traditional agriculture, Ratnamma engages in sub-trades, growing grain crops and crafting and selling pickles and spice powder products. Her diverse offerings, including tomatoes, mangoes, almonds, and more, incorporate agricultural technologies from ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, ICAR-IIMR Hyderabad, and UHS Bagalkot.

Innovations in Mango Ripening: Low-Cost Ripening Chamber

Implementing ICIIT-KVK, Kolar's advice, Ratnamma introduced a low-cost ripening chamber and developed a technique for natural mango ripening. She strategically packages and brands the mangoes in kid boxes, prioritizing sales through bungalow apartments and online marketing. Initiating her grain business in 2018-19, Ratnamma received support from the government and substantial financial assistance from the Agriculture Department.

Exceeding the Rs 1 Crore Milestone: Ratna Amma's Annual Earnings

Ratna Amma earns an impressive Rs 1.18 crore annually, encompassing revenue from agricultural and grain products. Her extensive product range, including grain malt, sub-blending, cleaning, dosa mix, idli mix, mango pickle, tomato pickle, and masala powder products, is sold under her own brand, ensuring significant profits in the market.
