Breaking Boundaries: How Chartered Accountant 'Rajiv Bittu' Became a Successful Farmer

Rajiv Bittu, a chartered accountant by profession, has defied conventional career paths by choosing farming over his accounting practice. In a remarkable turn of events, Bittu has not only found fulfillment in agriculture but has also achieved impressive financial success, surpassing his earnings as a chartered accountant.

Bittu's journey into agriculture began with a desire to change his daughter's perspective. Upon noticing her reluctance to engage with farmers during visits to his ancestral village, he decided to take up farming himself. Leasing land in Kuchu village, located 32 kilometers away from Ranchi, became his first step towards realizing this vision.

However, financial constraints sometimes posed challenges for Bittu in paying the land rent. To overcome this hurdle, he proposed a unique arrangement to the landlord, offering a portion of the produce—specifically, one-third of the total production—as payment. In mid-2014, Bittu experienced substantial production of watermelon and muskmelon. However, the profits did not match his initial investment. Determined to assess and enhance his returns, he decided to divide the land into smaller sections and evaluate the investment and profits earned from each part individually.

Over time, Bittu has leased 32 acres of farmland and cultivated various crops, including brinjal, cucumber, watermelon, and an array of vegetables. This diversification strategy has proven successful for him, consistently yielding a profit of approximately Rs 15 to 16 lakh annually.
