Binita Kumari, hailing from an underprivileged farming family, has transformed her life through innovative mushroom farming. Trained by KVK Banka, she embarked on a remarkable journey by incorporating unconventional methods like cultivating mushrooms on sugarcane leaves, paddy seed waste, and maize.

Binita's dedication and willingness to share knowledge have not only made her a successful mushroom producer but also a catalyst for empowering other women farmers in her community. With aspirations to establish a well-equipped mushroom spawn lab and create a mushroom hub in Jhirwa village, Binita's achievements serve as a beacon of hope and livelihood promotion.

Challenges She Addressed

Binita learned different techniques from KVK Banka to grow mushrooms and mushroom spawn production. As paddy was more cheaper therefore she adopted innovative strategies which included:-

- Spawn production on paddy field

- Techniques for marketing mushroom

- Shitake mushroom

- Cultivating mushrooms on sugarcane leaves, waste of paddy, maize, etc.

Through her good marketing strategy, lots of people have purchased her mushrooms. Infact many women have established a sale counter in their village where many group members have sold their produce. Since she has put effective strategies in marketing therefore women find it way too interesting and earn good revenue.

Achievements

Binita's journey began with the establishment of her mushroom production unit, procuring Mushroom spawn from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Banka, and successfully preparing 25 bags. Through her relentless efforts, Binita has inspired approximately 300 women farmers from neighboring villages, including Chutiya, Amarpur, Shitalpur, and Kheduraidih, to embrace mushroom cultivation as a means of generating higher income. Mushroom farming has become their primary source of livelihood, thanks to Binita's motivation and the innovative techniques she shared. Her vision extends to developing a fully equipped mushroom spawn lab to cater to the needs of nearby communities. Currently, her annual earnings from the sale of mushroom spawn and fresh mushrooms amount to approximately 2.5 to 3 lakhs.

By continually expanding her knowledge and receiving support from KVK and ATMA at the district level, Binita was able to acquire the necessary equipment for spawn production. Her unwavering dedication and commitment have not only transformed her own life but have also uplifted her community, paving the way for a prosperous future in mushroom farming.
