Bankers Turned Farmers- Green and Grains Thrives, Earns Rs 60 Lakh with Bumper Profit
Here is the inspiring journey of the Sharma family, transitioning from banking to organic farming. Overcoming setbacks, they founded Green and Grains, flourishing during the pandemic and transforming agriculture sustainably.
In 1983, Prateek's father, Praveen Sharma, began selling agricultural equipment, thereby boosting Prateek's passion for collective good and sustainable farming practices. Prateek's life took a turn in 2003 when he lost his father.
Prateeksha, a banker, and Prateek, a weekend farmer, faced challenges in healthy eating habits. Inspired to make a change, they delved into organic farming in their hometown, Bhopal. Despite initial setbacks, they identified key issues faced by farmers.
From Weekend to Full-Time Farmers
In 2015, Prateek collaborated with an FPO, Kalpavalli Greens, and by 2016, he became a full-time farmer. Prateeksha continued her banking career to support their business. Prateek's focus was on improving soil quality, adopting organic practices, and eliminating middlemen.
In 2017, The Better India featured Prateek's story, catching the attention of IIM Calcutta's Incubation Centre. With their support, Vishalya Foods and Farms Pvt Ltd was launched and later rebranded as Green and Grains.
With IIM Calcutta's seed money, Green and Grains bought its first vehicle and expanded operations. Facing highs and lows, the couple persevered with family support and consumer loyalty. In February 2020, faced with financial challenges, they launched a farm training program.
