6 important government schemes in Agriculture sector

In order to provide income support to farmers’ families across India, to enable them to take care of expenses related to agriculture & related activities and domestic needs, the Centre has introduced many schemes as well as programmes.

  • E-NAM

Objectives

  1. Market consolidation begins at the level of States and eventually nationwide through the same online marketplace, to facilitate pan - India trade in agricultural goods.
  2. Simplify marketing / transaction processes and standardize them across all markets to improve market efficiency.
  3. Promoting better marketing opportunities for farmers / sellers through online access to more buyers / markets, removal of equitable information between farmer and trader, better pricing and real time based on real demand and supply of agricultural goods, auction. process, prices related to product quality, online payment etc. which contributes to the effectiveness of marketing.
  4. Establish quality inspection systems to ensure quality in order to improve consumer-informed bidding.
  5. Promoting sustainable prices and quality product availability for consumers.

Farmers, Mandis, Traders, Buyers, Processors and Exporters.

  • National Mission For Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA)

Objectives

  • To adopt new and innovative projects to support governments in the efficient use of water resources
  • Increasing the area under Micro-irrigation
  • Promoting small-scale irrigation projects available under the PMKSY-PDMC program
  • Encourage farmers to establish small irrigation schemes
  • Consolidate all investment at field level in the irrigation sector
  • Provide comprehensive irrigation solutions such as water resources, distribution network, farm-level applications and efficient water use.
  • Establishing guaranteed benefit irrigation services
  • Prevent irrigation by using rainwater at a minimum level
  • Improving water efficiency, especially during droughts
  • Supporting the activities of the Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) component.

Beneficiary:

Small, medium and large farmers, regardless of the size of their land, who are willing to install irrigation schemes on their farms are eligible for the benefits under this scheme. Support is provided as a back-end to include microrrigation and other such related activities.

  • Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY)

Objectives

• Achieve consolidation of investment in field irrigation (regional level improvements and, if necessary, regional water use plans).

• Improve farm water availability and increase arable land under guaranteed irrigation (Har Khet Ko Pani).

• The integration of water resources, their distribution and their efficient use, in order to use water efficiently and effectively.

• Improving - the efficiency of farm water to reduce wastage and increase availability both on time and in quality.

• Improving the acceptance of accuracy - irrigation and other water-saving technologies (More Crop Per Drop).

• Promote renewable water resources and introduce sustainable water conservation measures.

• Ensuring integrated development of wetlands through a water and water conservation approach, groundwater rehabilitation, flow closure, livelihood provision and other NRM activities.

• Encourage extension activities related to water harvesting, water management and crop planning for farmers and grassland workers.

• Explore the possibility of re-using clean municipal wastewater for agricultural agriculture around the city.

Beneficiary:

Under the scheme, smallholder farmers receive INR 6000 per annum through direct bank transfers.

  • Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY)

1. Encourage integrated and environmentally friendly integrated farming systems that ensure the care and increase of fertile soil, conservation of natural resources, recycling of nutrients on the farm and reducing farmers' dependence on external resources.

2. Reducing agricultural costs for farmers through sustainable integrated farming systems thereby improving the total income of the farmer per unit of land.

3. Continued production of organic and nutritious food for human consumption.

4. Protect the environment from harmful biological chemicals by adopting less expensive traditional methods and lower costs and technology suitable for farmers.

5. Empower farmers through the development of their facilities in the form of clusters and groups that have the capacity to manage production, processing, value addition and certification management.

6. To enable farmers to become entrepreneurs by linking direct markets to local and national markets.

  • Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)

Objectives

  1. Provide insurance and financial support to farmers in the event of any crop failure due to natural disasters, pests and diseases.
  2. Strengthen the income of farmers to ensure their continued farming.
  3. Encourage farmers to adopt new modern farming methods.
  4. Ensuring the flow of debt in the agricultural sector.
  • Gramin Bhandaran Yojna

Objective of this Scheme:

  1. Creating capacity for science retention through integrated resources in rural areas.
  2. To meet the needs of farmers to store farm produce, processed farm products and agricultural inputs.
  3. Improving the integration, stopping and quality control of agricultural products to improve its sales.
  4. Prevent post-harvest stress marketing by providing promising financial assistance and marketing credit by strengthening agricultural marketing infrastructure in the country.
